Postpartum Support

One thing that has always bothered us about postpartum care is how quickly the focus shifts almost entirely to the baby — while mom is expected to recover, adjust, and hold everything together. Postpartum is not a small transition. You are healing physically, running on very little sleep, navigating feeding, adjusting to a completely new rhythm, and moving through major hormonal and emotional changes all at once. You deserve more than one rushed check-in and a “you’re cleared” at six weeks. At Alpenaura Holistic Health in Bend, Oregon, our postpartum support is designed to look at the whole picture — your mood, sleep, nutrition, nutrient depletion, pelvic floor and core recovery, hormone shifts, and the symptoms that so easily get brushed off as “just postpartum.” Taking care of yourself is not separate from taking care of your baby. We proudly serve patients in Bend, Redmond, Sisters, Sunriver, and throughout Central Oregon. We also offer telehealth services for Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and California clients.

Postpartum Mood & Mental Health

Postpartum Mood & Mental Health

Mood changes after birth exist on a spectrum, and they are common enough that screening should be
routine rather than exceptional. We evaluate mood alongside the physiological factors that influence it — thyroid function, iron, sleep, and hormone shifts — because postpartum depression and anxiety are
frequently intertwined with treatable medical contributors.

  • Postpartum depression and anxiety screening
  • Thyroid evaluation, including postpartum thyroiditis
  • Iron, ferritin, and nutrient assessment
  • Sleep evaluation and realistic strategies
  • Hormone assessment when indicated
  • Medication options compatible with breastfeeding when appropriate
  • Coordination with mental health care
  • Ongoing follow-up rather than a single check-in
Physical Recovery, Pelvic Floor & Core

Physical Recovery, Pelvic Floor & Core

Physical recovery does not conclude at six weeks. Bladder leakage, pelvic pressure, abdominal
separation, pain with intimacy, and scar discomfort are common — and none of them are things you
simply live with because you had a baby.

  • Pelvic floor symptom evaluation
  • Diastasis recti assessment
  • Bladder leakage and urgency evaluation
  • Cesarean or perineal scar concerns
  • Pain with intimacy after birth
  • Pelvic floor physical therapy referral
  • Return-to-exercise guidance
  • Support for active Central Oregon lifestyles
Nutrient Depletion, Hormones & Energy

Nutrient Depletion, Hormones & Energy

Pregnancy and breastfeeding place real demands on nutrient stores, and depletion is a common and
correctable cause of the exhaustion, hair loss, and brain fog that get attributed to new parenthood
alone.

  • Iron and ferritin evaluation
  • Vitamin D, B12, and folate assessment
  • Thyroid panel
  • Hormone evaluation as cycles return
  • Hair loss evaluation
  • Breastfeeding-compatible supplement guidance
  • Nutrition support for recovery and lactation
  • Energy and fatigue workup
Contraception, Cycles & Planning Ahead

Contraception, Cycles & Planning Ahead

Whether you are thinking about spacing, preventing pregnancy, or planning for another, postpartum is
the right time to make those decisions deliberately — including how they interact with breastfeeding.

  • Contraceptive counseling, including lactation-compatible options
  • IUD placement and management
  • Return-of-cycle education
  • Preconception planning for a future pregnancy
  • Fertility and cycle evaluation
  • Discussion of pregnancy spacing

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions,
Answered With Care

Every woman’s health journey is unique. Here are answers to some of the most common questions about our approach to women’s health, hormone care, treatment options, and personalized care at Alpenaura.

Sooner and more often than the traditional single six-week visit. We recommend early check-ins and continued follow-up through the first year, particularly for mood, thyroid, nutrient status, and pelvic floor recovery.

Yes, and many of our postpartum patients come to us exactly that way — cleared at six weeks but still not feeling well. It is never too late in the first year, or beyond, to have symptoms properly evaluated.

Common, but not something to accept without evaluation. Persistent exhaustion often traces to iron deficiency, thyroid dysfunction including postpartum thyroiditis, sleep debt, or mood changes — all of which are testable and treatable.

Yes. We take lactation compatibility into account in every treatment decision, including medications, supplements, contraception, and hormone options.
