Consultation
Your scar is assessed in person for maturity, texture, pigment characteristics, and candidacy. We discuss realistic expectations and a personalized approach before any commitment is made.
PERSONALIZED APPROACH
Scar camouflage is a paramedical tattooing technique that uses specialized, skin-toned pigments to deposit color into hypopigmented (lighter than surrounding skin) scar tissue. The goal is not to make a scar invisible, but to reduce the visual contrast between the scar and the surrounding skin so that it is less immediately noticeable. Results vary depending on scar type, age, texture, and pigment characteristics, and are discussed in full during your consultation.
The best candidates for scar camouflage have scars that are fully healed and stable — typically at least one year old, flat or near-flat in texture, and lighter in color than the surrounding skin. Raised, red, or active scars are not appropriate candidates. Common scars addressed include post-surgical scars from procedures such as tummy tucks, breast surgeries, and cesarean sections, as well as trauma scars and skin graft donor sites. Candidacy is always assessed in person during your consultation.
Your scar camouflage session begins with a thorough consultation to assess your scar's maturity, texture, and pigment characteristics. If you are a good candidate, pigments are custom-blended and test spots may be placed to evaluate color matching before the full session proceeds. Most sessions take one to two hours depending on the size and complexity of the area. A follow-up session is often recommended several weeks later to refine the result once the skin has fully healed and the true settled color is visible. Some variation in final color is normal as individual skin chemistry affects how pigment heals.

Pigments are custom-blended to match your surrounding skin tone. Test spots may be placed in an inconspicuous area to evaluate how the pigment heals in your specific skin before the full session proceeds.
Pigment is carefully applied to the scar tissue using paramedical tattooing techniques. Most sessions take one to two hours. The area will appear more intense immediately after treatment and will soften as it heals.
Final color settles over four to six weeks. A follow-up session is typically recommended to refine the result once healing is complete. Long-term maintenance varies by individual skin chemistry and sun exposure.
Minimal downtime · Pigment softens and settles over
Follow-up session typically recommended 6–8 weeks after initial treatment

Scar camouflage reduces visual contrast and helps the scar blend with the surrounding skin, but does not make a scar completely invisible. The goal is a natural, harmonious result that allows the scar to recede visually. Results vary depending on scar characteristics, skin tone, and how the individual's skin responds to pigment.
Scars should be fully healed and stable in color and texture — typically at least one year old. Treating an immature scar can compromise results and may interfere with the natural healing process. If your scar is newer, we can discuss timing during your consultation.
No. Scar camouflage is best suited for flat or near-flat hypopigmented scars. Raised, textured, red, or active scars are generally not appropriate candidates. In some cases, combining scar camouflage with other treatments — such as microneedling to improve texture first — may expand candidacy. This is discussed during your consultation.
Results are long-lasting but not permanent. Pigment will gradually lighten over time, particularly with sun exposure. Maintenance touch-ups may be recommended over the years to maintain the result. Using SPF consistently over the treated area significantly extends results.
Topical numbing cream is applied before treatment to minimize discomfort. Most patients describe the sensation as mild pressure or light scratching. Comfort levels vary by individual and by the sensitivity of the area being treated.
These treatments are thoughtfully paired to support and extend your results.
Microneedling can improve scar texture before camouflage tattooing is performed, expanding candidacy and optimizing the surface for better pigment results.
Patients who have undergone post-Mohs facial reconstruction may benefit from scar camouflage tattooing as a final step in their restoration journey.
For breast surgery patients, scar camouflage and areola restoration are often complementary services that together support a complete visual restoration.
